The Future of Content Creation
April 15, 2025
A few quick notes from the intersection of AI, marketing, branding, and small business.
Canva creative grab. Canva’s new update includes an AI assistant that can create images, suggest design ideas, write copy, and build documents. The Verge has this rundown. They’ve also introduced a tool called Canva Code that allows you to create mini apps just by typing in a few prompts. Given that Canva already does many of the things you can do with the Microsoft, Apple, or Google office suites, and handles many of the creative tasks that Adobe offers, is Canva becoming the one-stop creative shop for most content? With a powerful free tier and a $120/year for a pro plan, it’s pretty tempting to ditch Adobe Creative Suite ($90/month for one business seat and $60/month for an individual seat). Or at least downgrade and just subscribe to the one Adobe tool you can’t live without. I’ve been so disappointed in Adobe’s efforts at improving their software and customer service, it’s excellent to see an alternative. Their products are slow, and don’t get me started on the spell check function in InDesign. If you’re not creating in Canva, it might be time to give it another look.
The vibe coding explosion. According to vibe coder Riley Brown, the term “vide coding” has surpassed the term “prompting” in usage. That was fast. And it offers a glimpse of what’s coming in terms of self-serve coding. Seems like small businesses will be huge beneficiaries. You can now create your own applications even if you have zero coding experience. Tools like Loveable and many others allow you to create your own apps—for marketing, productivity, or whatever—with a few prompts. Madhukar Kumar’s Medium article has a nice guide to what’s available now, including capabilities. Riley Brown’s new venture, vibecode, intends to make vibe coding as easy as Canva has made design (and now many other services). They may roll out in a matter of weeks. Brown is interviewed in a great episode of the AI Daily Brief podcast that posted today. Watch Brown create a mobile app from scratch in 60 seconds.
